Tamarindo is one of the most developed beaches in Guanacaste, and while these developments (often foreign investments) are criticized by locals, they have brought some incredible restaurants to town. Luckily, self-contained, all-inclusive resorts are still rare in Costa Rica and restaurants like these continue to thrive:
- The best restaurant in town — it’s not even close. Also the most expensive.
- Pangas has the best real estate in town with water on two sides of the restaurant: the river to the north and the beach to the west.
- This restaurant is usually full or hosting private events, so I highly recommend making reservations 1-2 days in advance.
- This pizza spot is my all-time favorite. The fact it’s still here 12 years after my first visit is a testament to how charming this place is.
- It’s cheap, perfect for big groups, and the ambiance can’t be beat.
- This Argentine grill is the best place in Tamarindo for steak and red wine.
- It’s a very small restaurant so arrive early and be prepared to wait (it’s worth it).
- The people that work here are the best hosts in town — the service is wonderful.
- The perfect spot for those epic Tamarindo sunsets.
- Live music, cheap drinks, and bean bags on the sand.
- Go for the drinks not the food.
- I still haven’t eaten here, but I’m adding it to the list because it’s been here for years.
- In Tamarindo, it’s rare for restaurants to survive more than a season or two.
- I’m a coffee snob and I love this place. It’s the best coffee shop and only local roaster in town.
- They also offer a very hipster breakfast menu (e.g. $5 avocado toast).
- It feels like a coffee shop in the Mission or Brooklyn.
